Managed care are medical plans in which access to health-care services are managed to hold down unnecessary costs, it controls the cost and quality of care by coordinating medical and related services. The most common form of managed care is the health maintenance organization, or HMO. Managed Care plans also takes more responsibility for maintaining health by way way of preventative measures, not just waiting until their sick. Types of managed care include HMO's, PPO's and POS. The concept of the health services is that through a single point of entry through a primary care physician a patients care is managed and coordinated to ensure an emphasis on quality preventive and primary care, a reduction in inappropriate use of services, control of costs, and management of risk.
